Prospective Students

The CHANGE Lab at The University of Memphis is dedicated to being a part of the solution when it comes to health related disparities and wishes to foster global empowerment for minorities and underrepresented populations. In order to achieve our goals locally and abroad, we need like-minded, dedicated individuals on our team. Our lab and The University of Memphis have opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students.

About The University of Memphis
With over 17 bachelors degrees covering more than 250 areas of study and several post-graduate programs, it is easy to find and explore your academic interests at The University of Memphis. The University of Memphis is lucky enough to have the resources and opportunities of a state school with the tight knit community of a smaller school. Centrally located in the city of Memphis, students are able to explore the many activities and opportunities the city has to offer. Student Activities at The University of Memphis
The University of Memphis strives to have as many opportunities for student involvement as possible so that all students have the chance to explore academic and extracurricular interests. The school has over 200 registered student organizations with varied scopes and goals including: arts, culture, politics, community service, varsity sports, intramural sports, academic honors programs, religious groups, fraternities, and sororities. If for some reason none of these groups are of interest, students are encouraged to work with the office of Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI) to start new groups and organize campus events throughout the year. The University of Memphis has many on-campus opportunities for students including a recreation and fitness center with an Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness classes, and basketball courts. We also have eight on-campus residence halls for undergraduate and graduate students with special accommodations for married students and students with disabilities. The University of Memphis also has an on-campus theatre that is devoted to student performances.

Memphis

Memphis is affectionately known as the hub of the Mid-South and the “Grit n’ Grind” city. The city is home to many landmarks commemorating music, social justice movements, and historical events.  The city of Memphis is home to a NBA basketball team, the Grizzlies, and a triple A baseball team, the Memphis Redbirds. Concerts, plays, and other cultural events often visit Memphis and perform at local venues including the FedEx Forum and The Orpheum Theatre. There are many places to eat and explore in Memphis including the famous Beale Street, the lively Cooper-Young area, and the up and coming Overton Square neighborhood. People come from near and far every year for the Beale Street Music Festival, BBQ Fest, the River Arts Festival, the Cooper Young Festival and many other events. Graduate Students

The Department of Psychology at The University of Memphis offers six graduate programs:​

  1. Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program

  2. Experimental Psychology Doctoral Program

  3. School Psychology Doctoral Program

  4. Masters Degree Program in General Psychology (MSGP)

  5. Masters of Arts Program in School Psychology

  6. Educational Specialist Program in School Psychology

 

The Department of Psychology at The University of Memphis is a Center of Excellence in the state of Tennessee with over 30 full-time faculty members. The doctoral programs provide a minimum of four years of assistantship funding, a tuition waver, and a health plan to students. Students have opportunities for on-campus office space, conference travel funds, and first-year research experiences with a primary mentor or faculty member.

 

Additionally, Graduate Students have opportunities to do research at local institutions in Memphis such as:

  • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

  • University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center

  • Shelby County Schools

  • Methodist/LeBonheur Healthcare

  • VA Hospital

  • Shelby County Head Start
